Woodstock Library Board sees a vote of confidence

While it was no landslide, Woodstock Library Board President Dorothea Marcus feels the October 3 trustee election was a vote of confidence for a new library building. After a revised tally, former board member Leslie Gerber received the most votes, 502, followed by Marcus, 493 and incumbent Howard Kagan, 484. All favor tearing down the current library building and constructing a new one.

The slate of candidates favoring construction of a new Woodstock Library after tearing down the current building won the three seats available on Board of Trustees in October 3 voting. Former trustee Leslie Gerber led all six candidates with 442 votes, followed by current board president Dorothea Marcus with 435 and Howard Kagan with 427.

Woodstock Library Trustees plan to vote at their next meeting, 7 p.m. Thursday, April 18, on a $584,000 contract with Dobbs Ferry architect Stephen Tilly for designs on a new 12,000-square-foot library building amid lingering concerns by some that the board hasn’t been transparent enough and hasn’t given enough consideration to a renovation.
