In wake of petroleum spill that contaminated wells, Saugerties considers extending municipal water
A contractor damaged a line at a Rt. 32 gas station in May, causing a spill that contaminated several local wells, including the nearby Comfort Inn, which had to distribute bottled water to guests. The leak was discovered by a DEC inspector who, during a routine inspection, smelled gas while using the restroom.
