New Paltz Village planning Board members appeared again poised to approve the Denizen black-box theater plan at their November 9 meeting, but made so many changes to the resolution at the table that it was decided to hold off voting until members could review a cleaned-up copy.
Considerably more people in favor of the black-box theater, recently dubbed “the Denizen,” showed up for the second session of the public hearing on the proposal than did the last time.
The 70-seat Denizen Theatre would be located next to Water Street Market in the village. It would feature live performances.
New Paltz village residents could find a professional black box theater in their midst, if they show enough support for the idea. Harry Lipstein, owner of Water Street Market, will be proposing just such a venue for the property at 12 Main Street; it’s on the April 18 agenda of the village planning board, according to Mayor Tim Rogers.
