A rising tide for Ulster County real estate?

The overall increase in real estate sales lifted some Ulster County property prices more the others, and in some localities more than others. In Kingston, the median sold price of residential properties in 2019 was $191,750, up almost 20 percent over the previous year’s median price. In Woodstock, the median sold price was $420,000 in 2019, a hefty sum by most Ulster County standards but a gain of only four percent over the previous year.

Lawsuit to overturn approval of Heartwood project in Gardiner dismissed

The court dismissed all 13 causes of action cited in an Article 78 petition by a group of residents calling themselves the Friends of Gardiner, who sought to overturn the permitting of the project, a process that the plaintiffs termed “arbitrary and capricious.” Set on a 141-acre site that was formerly home to a tree farm, located on the north bank of the Shawangunk Kill in the Tuthilltown hamlet, Heartwood will include 70 cabins, a main building with spa and restaurant and an event space.

Back in December, 1905, when Kingston still got its water from the Zena reservoirs and Cooper Lake was twinkling in the city’s eye, Oscar Harrison was murdered near the water supply. An African American man, Cornell Van Gaasbeek, in whose house the body was found, was charged with the crime and tried in Ulster County Court. He was defended by a local reformer, part politician Augustus H. Van Buren, as the trial unfolded amid the charged racial climate of the early 20th Century.
