Congressman Faso has decided that large town hall meetings are unproductive, staged and a waste of his own and everyone’s else’s time. I think he’s wrong on every count. These rallies may not represent all the voices of a bitterly divided people, but they are people and they have voices.
Republican lawmakers are facing pointed questions and raucous crowds at town hall meetings across the country this month. Freshman 19th Congressional District Representative John Faso (R-Kinderhook) is not one of them.
Roughly 1,000 people protested outside Republican congressman John Faso’s Kinderhook office and home last Saturday. If the mood that had driven the crowd to the congressman’s doors was grim, the protest itself was a peaceful, even buoyant affair.
Faso’s criticisms of the order’s rollout echoed those from a growing number of fellow Republicans over the weekend, including former presidential candidate and current Ohio Governor John Kasich, as well as senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham.
“They talk about repeal and replace. I prefer reform.”
“Manning broke the law and betrayed her country,” said Faso. “With this ill-advised action, President Obama sets a dangerous precedent for our national security.”
“In order to come up with a reasonable replacement, we’ll need to negotiate with Democrats. I think the biggest mistake made in 2010 was that legislation was enacted without any bipartisanship participation.”
Headed to Washington in six weeks with a solid 10-point win, Congressman-elect John Faso says he hopes to forge bipartisan relationships, much like Chris Gibson, the Kinderhook neighbor he will succeed in about six weeks.
