Often, building moratoriums are enacted to give elected officials and planners time to review and possibly adjust zoning before major projects are built. Not in this case.
Suggesting a moratorium to halt development in a given area for a period of time is a frequent tactic employed by opponents of building projects who often, as in this case, argue that the existing zoning must be reconsidered because it didn’t contemplate the type of project now up for discussion.
It doesn’t take much driving around the Town of Gardiner these days to notice that a vocal opposition has developed to the Heartwood eco-cottage resort development currently proposed for a property on the north bank of the Shawangunk Kill in Tuthilltown.
