The team earned the right to compete at the New York State Science Olympiad Competition next month in Syracuse at Le Moyne College, where the best 54 Science Olympiad teams in New York will put their skills and knowledge to the test.

Students and trustees are calling for an expedited unveiling so winter games can have a mascot displayed.

Bennett Elementary School’s Student Council officers recently accepted a $1000 donation from the Imagine Onteora Foundation, which is to be used towards the purchase of risers for the school’s music department.

The new mascot replaces the Onteora Indian, which was deemed offensive.

“There is equipment that needs to be changed out, there’s high level equipment that is coming down the pike…our infrastructure is important to keep strong, and we need someone to oversee the whole staff and have a vision.”
