Ever since the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between New York City and its watershed communities 20 years ago, funding for community wastewater treatment plants has surged around the Catskills.
Catskill Mountain Railroad (CMRR) has violated floodplain regulations by moving trains onto its Phoenicia property without a permit, said Shandaken supervisor Rob Stanley.
The event was organized by a local liberal activist group in response to the congressman’s decision not to schedule any town hall meetings of his own. While it was billed as an educational forum, the event had the flavor of a progressive rally, with songs, chants and action items.
Thanks to geothermal heating at the highway garage, heat pumps in other facilities and some solar panels, the town has been able to reduce its carbon footprint substantially.
The cost would be $5.75 million.
CMRR does not plan to move its train cars off its residentially zoned property anytime soon, given that it has no place to put them that the railroad deems appropriate.
Belleayre Ski Center will get a new gondola, base lodge upgrades and more trails, said Gov. Cuomo in an announcement today.
