A live auction will present for sale 50 colorful guitar sculptures that have been on display throughout the town this past summer, 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, October 13 at the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts, 34 Tinker Street, Woodstock.
“The horse is a mirror to your soul,” said Jane Davis, whose horse, Snickers, is her partner in equine-assisted healing practice, based at a farm between Woodstock and Saugerties. “Everything you learn with a horse can be taken into your relationships.”
After moving to Woodstock at the age of 27, she began booking reggae musicians to perform in the Hudson Valley. Her next event is a Love Boat Cruise on Sunday, September 1, when the boat Rip Van Winkle will board passengers at 5:30 p.m. at Kingston’s Rondout for a trip down the Hudson, with Jamaican food and a deejay spinning reggae music. The last show of the season will be a concert by the Grammy-winning band Arrested Development at The Chance in Poughkeepsie on Saturday, September 14, at 8 p.m.
The Woodstock Fire Department will present its annual Fireworks display, at dusk (just after 9 p.m. usually), Saturday, August 17 at the Andy Lee Field, Rock City Rd.
Andy Lee Field in Woodstock will be dressed with hundreds of balloons and three tents as locals gather on Saturday, August 17, with lunch served from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the adjoining Mescal Hornbeck Community Center. Music will start at 2:15 p.m., headlined by The Cupcakes, and will move outside to the field at 7 p.m. for Rennie Cantine’s Woodstock Guitar Festival, leading up to the 9 p.m. (or so) grand fireworks display.
The 2019 edition of the Ulster County Fair returns to the Ulster County Fairgrounds in New Paltz from July 30 to August 4.
In a nod to the 50th Anniversary of the Woodstock Music & Art Fair, The 88th Annual Woodstock Library Fair goes Back to the Garden July 27.
SUNY New Paltz geology professor John Rayburn and two of his students came to the Woodstock Cemetery on June 26 with ground-penetrating radar equipment to determine what lies under sections of the property that are without gravestones. Members of the cemetery task force hope to find out if there are areas that could someday be used for burials, either of coffins or cremation urns.
It was quite a surprise for Cindy Cashdollar when, during the June 30 show at Levon Helm Studios, where the splendid slide and steel guitar player was performing with Asleep at the Wheel, Woodstock Town Supervisor Bill McKenna and Rennie Cantine appeared on the stage and presented her with the Key To The City.
America has always been a society of joiners, and it was in that spirit that Ulster County executive Pat Ryan last Friday signed resolutions at the historic Volunteer Fireman’s Hall on Fair Street in Kingston to authorize up to $6.2 million in bonding for construction of a public safety training center on Ulster Landing Park in the Town of Ulster.
