When Kathy Anderson and her late husband Walt arrived in Woodstock almost 50 years ago, they had a choice — they could live quietly within the community, raise their children and let Woodstock move on without them. Or, they could dive head first into their new hometown and try to make a difference. Fortunately, for Woodstock, they chose the latter.
At their August 17 caucus, Shandaken Democrats chose Kevin Van Blarcum and incumbent Faye Storms as candidates for the two town council seats up for election in November. They will compete with Nancy Holgate, who was chosen last week, along with a cross endorsed Van Blarcum, a Democrat, to represent the Republicans in the race for town council.
At issue is whether the railroad can be considered a “public transportation utility,” a designation that would allow the planning board to grant a special permit for storage of trains on property with residential zoning.
The 19th Amendment was passed August 26, 1920. That date should be observed.
