Women are making their way in the trades

Paula Dutcher, a Shandaken native, finds that being a woman gives her a positive edge in the building trade, although the presence of a female carpenter/contractor is often hard for men to process. As a mother, Jenna Rodgers, an electrician in Shandaken, appreciates the flexibility her work provides. Both of them feel the building trades are ripe for the entry of more women.

Forget about all the blathering by the likes of Dick Vitale about what geniuses the two coaches are who happen to be directing the fortunes of the teams he happens to be working. Really, whatever the game, whoever the coaches, Vitale’s over-the-top positive platitudes are monkey-business as usual.

The postponed Woodstock Symphony Orchestra concert, scheduled for January 19, still drew a sizeable audience to the Woodstock Playhouse on January 26. I continue to be favorably impressed by the work music director Jonathan Handman and his enlarged ensemble are doing together.
