Onteora school budget passes easily, but low turnout a concern

With what appears to be the lowest turnout in at least the last ten years, voters in the Onteora School District approved both spending propositions and board candidates Tuesday, passing the coming school year’s $57,403,498 budget with 406 voting yes to 192 no, a $6 million capital project 455 to 141, and confirming newcomer Dafne DeJesus and incumbent president Kevin Salem as board trustees with 436 and 443 votes, respectively.

Woodstock ZBA to make Lodge decision on Thursday, May 23

A recessed Woodstock Zoning Board of Appeals public hearing on the legality of new building permits granted for Selina Woodstock, new owners of The Lodge (formerly the Pinecrest), was closed last Thursday, May 9, following another courtroom-like flurry of opposing statements from attorneys for the restaurant/inn and a neighbor. A decision was set to be made by the ZBA’s next meeting on May 23.

Woodstock Land Conservancy’s (WLC) ninth annual Vernal Fling, 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at the Byrdcliffe Barn, 485 Upper Byrdcliffe Road, Woodstock,  honors Mike Hein, former Ulster County Executive, with the William R. Ginsberg Stewardship Award, in recognition of his significant achievements toward the protection and improvement of Ulster County’s environment.
