After a quick and successful fundraising effort, the arts organization, celebrating its 40th year, bought a building on Glasco Turnpike in which it could house its annual artists-in-residence. And not just any building, but the former home of artist Henry Mattson, built in 1824 and once home to the artist Frank Swift Chase, as well.

Onteora Central School District Board of Education President Bobbi Schnell resigned her post as a trustee it was announced, with sadness, at Tuesday’s April 4, Board meeting at Phoenicia Elementary School. Vice President Kevin Salem had been filling in for her as she took a leave due to back surgery.

Fixing the tracks

Ulster County expects to receive bids for repair of three washouts along the county-owned railroad tracks in the Boiceville area. Meanwhile, Rail Explorers, the rail bike company that has contracted to run tours along the Phoenicia-to-Boiceville tracks this summer, is considering alternate routes in response to concerns from residents along Cold Brook Road, originally intended as the last leg of the tours.
