The Saugerties school board held a special meeting this week to discuss the parameters of its search for a new superintendent to replace Seth Turner, who will leave at the end of September for a similar job on Long Island.
This coming school yearh, the talented tenor will will be spending his Saturdays in the Juilliard pre-college program.
Saugerties is likely to seek to hire an interim schools superintendent to help steer the school district. The search for a permanent replacement for outgoing district administrative leader Seth Turner could take around six months.
The Saugerties school board is getting down to the job of replacing schools superintendent Seth Turner and business manager Lissa Jilek.
After spending the past two decades with the Saugerties Central School District, Superintendent Seth Turner notified the school board on Wednesday that he’s taking a similar role in the Amagansett Union Free School District for the 2018-19 school year.
“It’s surprising how a lot of things come up during the summer when we have a chance to investigate and go into rooms that we aren’t ordinarily able to access so readily.”
Kira Podmayersky and Michael Averill are the respective valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2018, and each will speak during the commencement exercise.
Saugerties voters overwhelmingly approved a $62.4-million school budget for 2018-19 on Tuesday. The turnout was lower than usual, however.
Voters will decide the fate of a $64 million budget with a 2.5 percent tax increase. Board president Robert Thomann, James Mooney and Mike Maclary are unopposed in the trustee election.
“If a group of people can come together, it can represent the entire community in a positive light,” said SHS senior and National Honor Society president Tanesia White. “That’s what the National Honor Society is all about.”
