Former Saugerties schools superintendent Seth Turner says the school district he headed from 2009 to 2018 owes him $61,745.40 for unused vacation and sick days. When Turner left the district in late September 2018, the school board denied him the money. Last month, he filed a lawsuit.
Jane St. Amour, currently business manager at the Spencer-Van Etten school district near Ithaca, will officially take on the role of business manager of the Saugerties school system on July 1. “Saugerties is a great school district with a supportive board of education and community, and I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and immerse myself in the excellent things that are happening here in Saugerties,” said St. Amour.
Emily Christiansen and Hilary Mulford are the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Saugerties High School Class of 2019. Both are scholars, athletes, jobholders and environmental advocates.
Trustees approved a retirement incentive which would provide eligible staff a one-time payment to retire now. Those positions could either be left vacant or filled by new hires at lower salaries.
The proposed $65.8-million Saugerties school district’s draft budget for the 2019-20 school year represents an increase of roughly $1.8 million, or 2.83 percent, over the current year. The proposed budget comes with a potential tax-levy increase of 2.67 percent. School officials will try to deal with a revenue shortfall of $705,423 prior to the school board meeting scheduled for next Tuesday, April 9.
Saugerties High School Assistant Principal Fred Hirsch, the district’s longest-serving administrator, will retire at the end of the 2018-19 school year.
Automation is coming for millions of jobs over the next decade. But among the hardest to automate or offshore are jobs in the skilled trades, the type of work local students train for at BOCES.
The district will only be able to use four machines, one for each polling place.

Her destination is teacher Lindsay Crowley’s first-grade classroom, where she works with the children in her official capacity as a foster grandparent.
