For the second straight summer, Cahill Elementary School morphed into the English as a New Language Academy, a five-week immersive program for elementary-school students for whom learning English is part of their educational experience. Fifteen students participated in the ENL Academy this summer, up two from last year.
A former Saugerties School Board member is lobbying for a change, bringing to light issues of safety and driver discretion.
“The more we know about a child ahead of time, the sooner we can help.”
The board recently met to elect its officers and set goals for the upcoming academic year.
Each school year, a member of the student council is selected to serve as the student representative to the school board. Dhandi, treasurer of the Class of 2017, said she enjoyed serving in the role, which served as a liaison between the student body and the school district.
“For some, college is the next chapter,” said senior class president Daelan Santamaria. “Or, for some, the military or entering the work force. As for myself, I have absolutely no idea, and it’s kind of scary. It’s okay for now. There’s still a little time to figure stuff out.”
The Mid-Hudson Athletic League recently honored Saugerties seniors Michelle Melville and James Ball, along with more than 30 other students, as not only outstanding athletes but also excellent in academics.
Student filmmakers in several Ulster County schools submitted short films promoting awareness of unhealthy or abusive relationships.
Anna Marie Armstrong, and their salutatorian, Lilith Haig, will speak at the school’s 121st commencement Saturday, June 24.
