Three teams representing the Saugerties High School robotics program traveled to Connecticut last weekend for the Vex Robotics Competition at Weston High School, a 63-team tournament where students from different schools may find themselves battling another team in one round and joining forces with them in the next.

The freshly renamed Sawyer News Network (SNN) recently extended its reach beyond districtwide in-school broadcasts by jumping into the world of social media.

Within the larger goal of student achievement are areas of focus like raising the four year graduation rate above 90 percent, clarifying the journey toward graduation for all district stakeholders, defining grade level success in all content areas for all grades, ensuring educational practices are culturally sensitive, and establishing instructional strategies that are most likely to find success with the district’s students.

The Saugerties school board last month authorized a $3.15-million energy-performance contract with Honeywell, of Charlotte, NC, designed to study district facilities and look for energy savings.

Students at Cahill Elementary School last month were encouraged to enjoy lunch with students they didn’t know. Mix It Up at Lunch is a program designed to break down social barriers and promote inclusion in a place where cliques are often most pronounced.

A pair of stellar spellers from the Saugerties Central School District won their way to the Capital Region Spelling Bee in February after winning the annual district-wide bee on Thursday, December 12.
