Saugerties forum offers recycling tips, hints and wisdom

Angeline Peone and Melinda France, two re-cycling educators for the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency, spoke to more than a dozen of the environmentally conscious about what can be recycled, what can be done to minimize waste before one even begins the sorting process and how to avoid “wishcycling” — the act of errantly throwing something into your recycling bin hoping that it can be recycled, without being quite sure.

Town officials voted to officially withdraw from the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement and Narcotics Team (URGENT) at the May 15 town board meeting, deciding instead to lend an officer from the Saugerties Police Department to a special domestic violence task force, the Family Violence Unit, within the county Department of Social Services.

Volunteer to be a Saugerties Lighthouse trail keeper

Volunteers can participate the first Saturday of each month from June to October for an hour or two to maintain the picturesque nature trail leading to the lighthouse. Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Projects include debris cleaning, brush trimming, and raking. Meet at the Lighthouse at 9 a.m. for instructions and supplies. No registration required. Community forum about Saugerties C&D dump Tuesday

Catskill Mountainkeeper, Woodstock Land Conservancy and the Dump Here Never group are hosting a community forum on Tuesday, May 14 at 7 p.m. at the Saugerties High School auditorium at 310 Washington Ave., to discuss the fight against the construction and demolition dump on Route 212 in Saugerties.
