Helsmoortel cited the planned Holiday Inn near the Thruway, town water in Malden, natural gas on Kings Highway, work on a new Hudson River park, and assistance with the Vertis building were all mentioned.
“It’s been a great year in the village. Things are getting done.”
After receiving approval last year to build Country Meadows, a 43-unit mixed-use housing development on North Street, Premier Development will be back before the Saugerties village planning board January 11 seeking to have that approval amended53 units of market-price housing.
The proposal would lower the speed limits on the southern approach to town, starting at the Old Stage Rd. intersection.
Town Supervisor Greg Helsmoortel said the not-for-profits “were doing okay,” but Marge Block, who heads the historical society, said the cut would affect her organization “a great deal.”
About the only complaint to come out of the Holiday in the Village celebration in Saugerties was that there was not enough parking. This complaint is often made when a large event is held in the village.
A new ambulance contract, along with health and benefits increases for town employees, led to increased costs.
The village is considering a few locations, but the main contender will be familiar to music fans (and anyone who has followed local development proposals for the last 20 or so years).
