The Republican councilman had challenged Greg Helsmoortel years ago, and after an amicable relationship on the board together, was widely expected to run after Helsmoortel stepped down.

Town Supervisor Greg Helsmoortel confirmed this week that the Saugerties town ethics board is investigating allegations that a town department head pressured employees to participate in a 2015 Republican caucus in order to swing the party nomination to Helsmoortel.
If a Railroad Avenue resident wants village water he will have to pay for it himself because it would be too costly for the village to pay for it, said Michael Hopf, Water Department superintendent.
In all, about 80 persons were appointed to serve the town on various board and committees.
