Apparently it pays to be a squeaky wheel: According to Saugerties Assessor Frank Orlando, between 60 and 70 percent of those who came forward will get their assessments lowered.

The town of Saugerties has increased assessed values in the 2018 assessment roll, town officials said last week.

Planners put restrictions on size of secondary garage on Turkey Point Dr., denied a proposed Glasco flea market, and allowed more units in mobile home park.

In what may be the beginnings of a municipal effort to expand Internet access to unconnected areas of Saugerties, local officials have been talking with communities that have established their own web service infrastructure.

Salary could be the issue. According to police chief Joseph Sinagra, the department has lost six officers to better-paying New York police departments since 2013.

The Lifespring adult learning program becomes an official town entity; the town renews its membership in a county gang task force following a gang murder that took place in Saugerties; a planning board secretary was appointed; the town asked an engineering firm to inspect the Plattekill Creek culvert and gave the highway superintendent permission to auction off a dump truck.

The agenda for the town planning board’s recent meeting included: a proposed flea market in Glasco, land for a connecting road for emergency access to Riccardi Elementary School, expansion of a mobile home park and a suspiciously ample second garage on Turkey Point Drive.

The proposed $2.35-million 2018-2019 Saugerties village budget, which will go into effect at the beginning of June, will continue a eight-year stint of tax-levy decreases, according to mayor Bill Murphy.

Myers, the husband of former Saugerties town supervisor Kelly Myers, will replace Dan Lamb, who died Feb. 13.
