Bisignano spent the last three years restoring a 1952 Ford F1 pickup truck, one of 19 vehicles in the nationwide contest. The only way to win is through online votes.
“By catering to everyone from three-and-four-year-olds and our youth hockey league to senior skating classes each week and being accommodating to all ages, we’ve really built this up over time.”
“People come here upset, feeling bad about their circumstances, sometimes crying,” Richardson notes. “We try to ensure that by the time they leave they’re happy and smiling. We try to uplift everyone as well as help them keep food on their tables.”
The town, village, the school district, the Boys and Girls Club and Family of Woodstock teamed up a number of years ago to honor local kids for doing the right thing.
“When you go into a new organization, you spend a lot of your time exploring and discerning. The congregation and I will be working together how to be church in this place in this time. We have a lot to learn together.”
At its December 14 meeting, the Saugerties town board honored Brian Sawchuck, Gerry Marzec, James “Spider” Barbour and Paul Pavlovich.
The teachers raised money for hungry students and local families battling health problems.
Inaugurated two years ago as a way of letting local residents celebrate the start of the New Year in the village rather than going to other communities and then having to drive home, officials say this year’s-ending event will be better than ever.
“The post was basically on life support.”
The Saugerties Farmers Market moves inside for a holiday market on Saturday, Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Senior Center. Santa will be on hand for photo opps and to pass out sweet and healthy treats.
