Saugerties gets 12 ‘Little Free Libraries’

By all accounts, Saugerties lost one of its most cherished souls when David “Scout” Thornton died on April 1. He was a longtime resident, prominent in the tourism industry, and a consummate humanitarian.
What would they do there? They might bring a group of young people from the Boys and Girls Club to grow potatoes, for instance. Or they could organize field trips for youths. “We would be doing as much as possible without fossil fuels.”
Three Saugerties youngsters were honored by the Saugerties town board at its March 15 meeting as part of the You’ve Been Caught program run by the Saugerties Community Youth Awards Committee.
The three routes are called Manorville Loop, the Reservoir Loop, and the West Saugerties Road Loop. Each has stops along the way so bicyclists can enjoy the views and rest a bit. “These are all nice easy rides.”

To many, the idea of shaving off your hair in front of a packed audience might sound like the kind of dream that wakes you in a cold sweat. To a number of local residents, however, it is the perfect way to raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer.
“Before I really got into writing for a living, I was a session musician who would be hired to play drums. I was gigging five nights a week and working crazy hours. This guy I met at one of my gigs owned an ad agency. We got to talking, he wanted to hear my stuff, one thing led to the other and here I am.”
Bisignano credits the residents of Saugerties for giving him the win the contest.
“Anyone who is in love with movies and who wants to take that on, they should do it.”
