The steeple of the Reformed Church of Katsbaan on Old Kings Highway was erected in 1893. Now, 125 years later, the steeple and its housing are structurally unsound. The town code enforcement officer has given the congregation until November to fix it. If they don’t, the disrepair will constitute a property maintenance code violation.

The Kiwanis Club of Saugerties has passed the baton of coordination of the community’s Fourth of July festivities to the Saugerties Lions Club this year. Although the long-standing ceremony will go largely unchanged, the transfer is significant; after 34 years of hosting the festivities, Kiwanis members could no longer handle the event alongside their ever-growing list of community involvements.

Student filmmakers from Saugerties High School have taken first and third place in the fourth annual county teen dating violence video contest.

The Ulster County feast for veterans, held monthly in different towns around the county, came to Saugerties on June 12.

The band has used a room over the Inquiring Mind Book Store as a practice space for years, but the space was in poor condition and dangerous to occupy, said co-conductor Joe Drisgula. The band is looking at new space for practice.
