The Ulster County Legislature began the restructuring of the county’s seven-member Industrial Development Agency board of directors last week. Not everyone was happy with the results. The process will probably be completed at the next legislative meeting.
Apparently it pays to be a squeaky wheel: According to Saugerties Assessor Frank Orlando, between 60 and 70 percent of those who came forward will get their assessments lowered.
The 17th season of the Saugerties Farmers Market will launch on Saturday, May 26 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. the Cahill School parking lot on 115 Main Street.
The Saugerties highway department aims to repave six miles of town roads with about 10,000 tons of blacktop by the end of this summer, according to superintendent Doug Myer. The state-funded CHIPS program will provide $361,318 in funding.
Saugerties Performing Arts Factory (SPAF) at 169 Ulster Ave. will host a reception on Sunday, May 20 from 5-7 p.m. to preview the 41 sailboats that will be part of the Sailin’ Around Saugerties public art exhibit.
Saugerties voters overwhelmingly approved a $62.4-million school budget for 2018-19 on Tuesday. The turnout was lower than usual, however.
A powerful storm pummeling Saugerties on Tuesday, May 15 elicited a tornado warning from the National Weather Service, produced hail the size of apricots, flooded Partition Street, caused a house fire on Abbotts Court and gave Saugerties’ Highway Department workers and emergency personnel plenty to do. According to Town Supervisor Fred Costello, no injuries were reported.
The town of Saugerties has increased assessed values in the 2018 assessment roll, town officials said last week.
The May 19 house tour is the town’s most ambitious yet, with 68 stone houses.
