“Memorial Day is a day that should not only be celebrated once a year, but every single day,” said Matt Russell, commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5034.
The Saugerties Community Youth Awards Committee recognizes and rewards the young citizens of the Saugerties area who are “caught” making good choices and doing good deeds.
Village officials believe the new owner of 19-century mansion that has stood vacant since the early 90s is serious about fixing it up. “In the past, people were buying [the property] just to try to flip it,” said trustee Terry Parisian. “No one really had any solid plans.”

After months of discussion at the Saugerties town planning board, neighbors of the proposed Agawan Restaurant and Campground in Glasco got to express their views. In addition to the 120-seat restaurant and 60 cabins, the facility proposes garden areas for growing food for the restaurant, an artists’ studio and possibly a horseback riding stable.
Wednesday, May 30: Saugerties will mark the occasion with a traditional Memorial Day service at the American Legion Post, and on the same day, the Stallions baseball team will recognize local veterans at the beginning of the game.
