Saugerties contractor seeks lifting of stop-work order
Kiniry West LLC, situated on 1740 and 1752 Route 212, has requested that the Saugerties Planning Board approve a revised site plan that would lift a stop-work on what neighbors call his excavation and mining operations, issued by the town’s building department last November.
Clegg makes it official
District Attorney Dave Clegg was formally sworn into office last week in a packed ceremony at the Ulster County Courthouse. The 66 year-old former trial attorney is the first Democrat to hold the DA’s office since 1850. The swearing in comes after a weeks-long process to verify the results of November’s election where Clegg prevailed over Republican former Chief Assistant District Attorney Mike Kavanagh by just 78 votes.

Local homeowners earned a combined $13.8 million in income while welcoming approximately 55,800 guest arrivals for the five biggest guest arrival weekends in 2019 across the region, including Columbus Day Weekend, Memorial Day Weekend, Labor Day Weekend, and peak fall foliage tourism weekends, according to the company. Once again, Ulster County led the way in the Mid-Hudson by a wide margin.
Coyote hunt offers thousands of dollars in prizes
Why would a group want to organize such a hunt? Because coyotes are held in very low-esteem by pretty much everyone, aren’t native to the northeast and their numbers seem to be increasing. White-tailed deer hunters hate them because they prey on fawns, and reports of coyotes attacking and killing pets have been on the rise in recent years.
Hudson Valley Boy Scout troop names new executive
Dana Kuhns has been named scout executive of the Rip Van Winkle Council, Boy Scouts of America, which serves Ulster and Greene Counties.
Saugerties school district looks for energy savings
The Saugerties school board last month authorized a $3.15-million energy-performance contract with Honeywell, of Charlotte, NC, designed to study district facilities and look for energy savings.
