As a result of the detail, over 100 pedestrians came into contact with officers, each receiving a pedestrian safety palm card which provided information specific to pedestrian obligations in the lawful use of crosswalks. Additionally, 19 motorists were issued traffic tickets for either failure to wear a seatbelt or talking on their cell phone when operating their vehicle.
Rather than in late August as originally planned, the process of replacing the Kiwanis Ice Arena’s walls and deteriorating roof will likely begin in “later September,” according to an email to town Parks and Buildings Supervisor Greg Chorvas from a representative from contractor Legacy Building Solutions. The completion date for the project, the email stated, will “bump up against” the original target date of Nov. 16.
The town board unanimously voted at their Aug. 14 meeting to honor iconic Marvel Comics illustrator and Saugerties native Joe Sinnott, who is retiring after 69 years of work, with a day of recognition on Aug. 31.
Trucks can continue to come on and off Joe Karolys’ three construction and demolition debris dumping sites in Saugerties until at least September 11 after state Supreme Court Judge Richard Mott adjourned an August 22 hearing in which the town was seeking to overturn the Temporary Restraining Order that prevents it from enforcing stop work orders at the sites.
Saturday, Aug. 31: The parade of farm animals includes horses, ponies, an alpaca, baby goat, pot-bellied pig, baby bunnies, chicks, ferrets, chinchillas and bees in their hive.
