The county’s vision for its economic future, Ulster Tomorrow, is in need of a major update— particularly in how the nature of work has changed, perhaps the most profound economic trend in the past decade. It completely escaped the Ulster Tomorrow net.
The Saugerties Reformed Church is hosting a series of talks intended for “Nones and Dones,” those without a religious affiliation or those who are simply “done;” who used to have an affiliation but no longer do because of doubts or negative experiences.
Wednesday evening, Dec. 14, the Saugerties school district will host a public screening of “Audrie & Daisy,” a documentary produced by Netflix which links the topics of sexual assault, cyber-bullying and suicide. School officials say it is important for parents and students to be aware of all three.
Town Supervisor Greg Helsmoortel said the not-for-profits “were doing okay,” but Marge Block, who heads the historical society, said the cut would affect her organization “a great deal.”
About the only complaint to come out of the Holiday in the Village celebration in Saugerties was that there was not enough parking. This complaint is often made when a large event is held in the village.

School officials budgeted with a greater than 98 percent accuracy, and the district is in good fiscal health.
More than 3000 people packed the Village of Saugerties last Sunday for the Holiday in the Village celebration to shop, to enjoy the festive atmosphere, to take part in the annual toy giveaway run by Bob Siracusano and the Sawyer Automotive Foundation, and to watch the yearly decoration lighting of Seamon Park, as well as the Festival of Lights parade run by the Saugerties Fire Department.
The Saugerties Central School District recently identified 34 samples from non-potable water outlets as exceeding levels of lead deemed acceptable by the New York State Department of Health, but school officials this week said they’ve already tackled most of the issues.
