Scores protest planned deportation of New Paltz businessman
Word came Saturday that New Paltz resident Luis Martinez had been put on a deportation list days earlier, and that more public action might be all that stands between him and a plane trip to Mexico. Message received: roughly 150 friends and neighbors showed up yesterday afternoon at the Orange County Correctional Facility to make their voices heard.

Interconnection of parking areas is a planning objective at the county level, as part of an effort to design developments for people rather than their vehicles. For this particular project, a specific objective is to reduce the number of drivers attempting to make a left onto Route 299 from McDonald’s, but presumably it would also incrementally benefit the broader goal of reducing the need to depend on motor vehicles. Neither McDonald’s or adjacent property owners are very interested in the idea.
Gardiner councilman Mike Reynolds resigns
After seven years on the Gardiner Town Board, councilman Mike Reynolds submitted his resignation last week, effective March 11, “due to a change in my permanent residency status from Gardiner to New Paltz.”

Citizen group sues Gardiner over approval of cabin resort project
The citizens’ group Friends of Gardiner, claiming to represent more than 300 Gardinerites, has filed an Article 78 legal action against the town of Gardiner challenging the approval on January 17 of the special permit, site plan and subdivision request for the Heartwood project, a lodging facility with 70 cabins, restaurant and event barn.
