It’s been a little over two weeks since a Saugerties man killed his father in the parking lot of a New Paltz diner and shot himself after losing control of his vehicle following a police pursuit, and investigators are still trying to piece together why it happened.
Full-time access to that playground was cut off when it was fenced in with the pool a number of years ago.
The incident occurred last week on Wurts Ave. in the village of New Paltz. Police are still investigating, and so far have not released any information on the suspects.
This is the latest in a series of steps intended to revitalize the plaza. The controversial parking lot redesign was a required prerequisite to amending the site plan. That work, intended to bring the lot up to current safety standards, is still brought up by locals without prompting because the new configuration remains unpopular. It’s yet to be seen if any plans to update ShopRite itself will be brought to a Planning Board meeting.
