New Paltz Town Board members opted to conduct a solely internal search for the next police chief, and after interviewing two candidates, they have decided unanimously and enthusiastically to give the job to Robert Lucchesi, the current lieutenant. Chief Joseph Snyder is set to retire in April.
Two born-and-raised Lloyd boys, Jeff Paladino (R) and Fred Pizzuto (D), are hitting the campaign trail in a bid to win the position of town supervisor.
‘I’m going to be straight with you, I have my reservations,’ said Sheriff Juan Figueroa, who took office in January. ‘But what we’re doing isn’t working. We have to try a new approach.’

Trouble is, the building at 46 Bevier Road lies on a separate parcel from the rest of the campgrounds and hasn’t been approved for such use by the town.
For years the New Paltz-based CareMount Medical office was located at a small, cozy office in the Village, just off the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail and within walking distance of several downtown shops. The problem, according to CareMount officials and the office staff, was that there was no room to expand in the 2,100-square-foot site, and very little parking for their patients.
Minnewaska State Park and the Mohonk Preserve have both been moving at a steady clip to keep up with new parking areas, trailheads and various construction/renovation projects that are underway to meet the needs of an ever-increasing outdoor recreation population.
