Coach Tom Tegeler is the heart and soul of New Paltz football

A lot of very good football players have come and gone at New Paltz High School in the past 20 years. Some of the very best truly stand out. One thinks of Travis O’Dell, James Mach, Brandon Egan-Thorpe, Gordie Pine, Kevin Murphy, Joe Judge, Alex Dumas, Khariff Laboy, Guy Soumah, Joey DiMarco, Jon Diaz, Jimmy Verney, and this year Kenny Verney, Tanner Johnson and Mike Pisciotta. Though players come and go in high-school ball, one important feature of New Paltz football has stayed constant. Head coach Tom Tegeler, who has been running the show since the 2000 season, is arguably the best coach in the Section

New Paltz parents learn another principal is leaving

Tarkan Ceng, who took the reins of Lenape Elementary School in September 2017, is leaving that position. Board of education members accepted his resignation — effective the end of February — at their February 27 meeting, and appointed Alan Baker as interim principal, effective March 8, at a rate of $550 a day.

The Mountain Laurel Waldorf School in New Paltz will host their annual open house this Saturday, February 23 from 10 a.m. to noon. Rodriguez hits 1,000, leads New Paltz basketball over Saugerties

Axel Rodriguez needed just three points to reach 1,000 career points. He did that in the game’s opening minute on Friday night, hitting a three-pointer from the side of the key that put him in with that very select group of New Paltz boys that have hit the 1,000 mark: Charlie Davis (1982), Tom Morales (1991) and Matt Petruzzelli (2008), but even more hit for a career-high 29 in his face-off with Saugerties’ freshman phenom Dior Johnson as homestanding New Paltz nipped the Sawyers 57-55 in overtime, clinching the MHAL’s Division 1 title.
