New Paltz SeaHawks win DUSO championship again

Led By Abbie Santos, Delaney Pece, Ashley Benkert, Brooke Vos and Julia Napoli, the New Paltz SeaHawks ran their Dutchess-Ulster Swim Organization [DUSO] Championship string to seven straight and eight in the last nine years, amassing 1,512 points to second-place Zena’s 1,283 in Saturday’s title meet at the Ulster County Pool. The Seahawks, 7-0 this season, have also put together an incredible 61-straight dual-meet string.

Incoming New Paltz High School principal takes the reins

“If you are going to pay attention to diversification, then you must pay attention to those in the community who support you,” Dr. Mario Fernandez said. “Empowering the next generation means giving them a sense of worthiness within the high school environment. A high school is a microcosm of a community, so it’s my charge to make sure that microcosm is inclusive for everybody.”

With the traditional sounds of “Pomp and Circumstance” echoing through the chambers of the SUNY New Paltz basketball gymnasium, 172 New Paltz High School seniors marched in with their maroon gowns and golden tassels under flowered covered arches to receive their diplomas Wednesday night. As it stormed and raged outside, inside the mood was festive with applause ringing from every corner, horns blowing, soloists from the choir cascading their vocals and the brass band instruments sending vibrations of hope and expectations through the floorboards.
