At a recent forum, the consensus seemed to be that parents want the district to hire someone innovative, sensitive to cultural and economic diversity and willing to commit to living in the Highland district.
“I wanted to be the best teacher I could be, the best coach I could be,” says Dodd. His professional peers seem to concur that he hit his mark.
The school board has cited studies suggesting the change would be beneficial for students.
The school board gave a first reading to a policy that would restrict the use or operation of unmanned aircraft systems, commonly referred to as “drones” or remote-controlled aircrafts, anywhere on school premises without prior written permission of the superintendent of schools.
In the trial run earlier this year, local residents, called “community ambassadors,” took their students on hikes, visited museums, attended performances, visited local sites like Walkway Over the Hudson and shared meals in restaurants and their homes.
He brings nearly 20 years of experience to New Paltz, most recently as principal at Kent Primary School in Carmel, a K-4 building.
