Saturday, June 2: Tour-goers will visit simple farmsteads and houses from the Federal period, three-bay side-hall and five-bay center-hall structures. Seven of the town’s most interesting and unusual vernacular structures in a range of period styles dating to the 19th and 20th centuries will be featured, with the Greek Revival aesthetic and the diversity of its expression in the region a recurring theme.

After two years of not opening until July Fourth weekend (not to mention being closed for replacement for several summers before that), the new Rosendale Pool is headed for an early start to the 2018 season.
The completed three-quarter of a mile-long section of the trail runs along the Wallkill River from the Carmine Liberta Bridge to Springtown Road. When fully constructed, the six-mile long River-to-Ridge loop trail will connect the Village of New Paltz to the Shawangunk Ridge.
Moriello Pool is scheduled to open to the public on weekends beginning with the three-day Memorial Day weekend, May 26-28. The pool will open to the public daily beginning Saturday, June 23.
Treats incorporating bacon were back in force this year, along with a number of salty offerings, such as Cupcake Couture’s Chocolate Potato Chip and Salted Popcorn. Trending in 2018 as the hot cupcake ingredient: Nutella, combinations of which were to be found at several vendor booths. Can Marmite and Vegemite cupcakes be far behind?
Manager Red Zimmerman described the venture in a prepared statement, writing that “we hope this beautifully renovated space will become a destination; a place where village residents, students and tourists alike can connect with each other. Comfortable seating, friendly staff and complimentary coffee, tea and refreshments will make Chestnut Street Connection the perfect place to put down your phone and pick up a conversation about family, children, education, the environment, faith, work or anything else.”
The Gardiner Cupcake Festival will be held this Saturday, May 19 from noon to 5 p.m., rain or shine, at Wright’s Farm in Gardiner. The festival offers something for everyone in the family, from adults to children. Activities for kids include face painting, cupcake decorating, kids’ zone, pony rides, wagon rides and bouncy houses. Most of the childrens’ activities are free of charge.
On Saturday, May 19, New Paltz author Ingrid Blaufarb Hughes will be giving a live reading at the Adriance Memorial Library in Poughkeepsie, along with Nina Belén Robins, author of The Supermarket Diaries and A Bed with My Name on It.
