Two places in New Paltz to see movies under the stars this summer

Water Street Market has been showing free outdoor movies in its courtyard every summer Monday night for a decade now. The season is up and running already, with the last film slated for Monday, August 27. And this year, the third Saturday of each month will also bring an opportunity to view a free movie under the stars in New Paltz, at the Field of Dreams park pavilion, where the first of three Saturday night movie screenings this summer will be Saturday, June 16.

The brand-new rainbow crosswalk across from New Paltz Village Hall got its first big workout last Sunday afternoon, as the 2018 Pride March made its way into Hasbrouck Park to kick off the LGBTQ Pride Festival that has been held there every June since 2005.

Is the word “dynasty” appropriate for the New Paltz SeaHawks, the summer DUSO (Dutchess Ulster Swim Organization) swimming program that has won 48-straight dual meets (that’s almost seven years undefeated) and six of the last seven DUSO Championships…last season by 280 points over second-place Red Hook. And this year doesn’t look to be any different.

Independence Day celebration in New Paltz and Highland will be Friday evening, July 6

The New Paltz fireworks will be at the Ulster County Fairgrounds. In Highland, the firework festivities will be held at the Town Field, located behind the Methodist Church on the corner of Vineyard Avenue and Main Street. Both celebrations will have kid’s activities, concessions stands and more.
