Mayhem at the Oscars dinner theater benefits New Paltz scholarships

Faye Dunawaywith and Warren Batty, the leaders of an infamous Hollywood cult, will die at the Oscars. Was it murder? Every star in Hollywood has a motive. But who had the opportunity? Figuring that out — in between cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and dessert — will be your pleasurable assignment when you attend Mayhem at the Oscars, a benefit for this year’s High School Scholarship Fund awards from the New Paltz United Teachers on Saturday, March 9, 7 p.m., at the New Paltz Jewish Congregation Community Center.

The 2019 Mohonk Consultations spring forum, “Supporting Farmers and Farm Workers in the Hudson Valley,” will take place on Sunday, April 7 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the parlor at Mohonk Mountain House. This interactive forum will invite participants to collaborate in seeking ways to support sustainable and just farming in the Hudson Valley.

New Paltz boys basketball defends Section 9 crown

After reverting to some bad habits in their 15-point loss to Ellenville in the MHAL basketball final last week, the New Paltz boys got it together quickly and routed Red Hook 71-55 in the Class A semifinal, before routing Minisink Valley (Friday, March 1 at Mount St. Mary’s) 58-44 in the final to defend their Section 9 title. It was a first for the Huguenots and the first team to repeat in Class A since Red Hook in 2010-2011.

Highland’s Matt Malherio medals at state wrestling meet

Highland’s three-time Section 9 Division 2 champion Matt Malheiro had himself quite the State wrestling meet this past weekend. The senior, wrestling at 132 pounds after winning titles two years running at 138, advanced to the semifinal round on Saturday with victories on Friday over Malachi Porter of Eagle Academy (8-1) in the Round of 16 and 1-0 over Mike O’Brien of Mount Sinai in the quarterfinals.
