The Village of New Paltz Historic Preservation Commission unveiled its fourth annual art exhibit and announced the award-winners at a reception Saturday, April 28. The show will remain on view in the community room of the Elting Memorial Library during regular library hours through May 12.
“Talking Gong” was inspired by the gong chime culture of Southeast Asia, particularly the rhythms and language of the gandingan, the Philippine Maguindanaon “talking gongs.”
The podcast is titled The Kvetching Professor, subtitled Taking a Break from Quality Time.
“We’re spending a lot of time looking at what the community wants and what they need. We’re a community organization, and that’s who I want to listen to.”
Feb. 16: Geared toward “middle grade” readers — third grade through middle school, depending on their reading level, Ellis says — the book is the first in a fantasy adventure series collectively titled The Karakesh Chronicles and projected to run to five volumes.
“Porcelain has several properties that make it kind of magical,” says Goldman. “It has silica in it, so it’s glass-like; the finish is very smooth and silky. And it’s a very white material, so glazes really ‘pop.’ But I love the translucence of it; that’s my thing.”
In her introduction to the book, due to be published next month by Viking, Susan Zimet recalls how news of commemorations of the 2017 centennial of the enfranchisement of women in New York State made her realize that this wasn’t a familiar enough story.
The exhibit will be on view through Jan. 7.
Unison Arts Center will host its 27th annual Holiday Craft, Art and Design Fair on Saturday and Sunday, December 2-3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day in the glass atrium student union building on the SUNY New Paltz campus.
