Given the popularity of the Mountain Brauhaus, it seems unlikely that the proposal will provoke much controversy. But there are some aspects to the expansion that make it unusual, including the concept of a parking lot with two segments divided by a heavily trafficked road.

At their February 19 meeting, New Paltz School Board trustees appointed Dominick Profaci to replace Kathy Preston, who resigned suddenly prior to the February 5 meeting. Profaci, a former trustee, will serve until the school board election on May 19 when the highest vote-getter among candidates will be immediately seated in his stead.
At a meeting of the New Paltz Police Commission on February 20 that segued into a Town Board meeting, several significant changes were made to the personnel lineup of the police force. Among them was a historic milestone: Brianne Quigley was promoted from patrol officer to become the New Paltz Police Department’s first-ever female sergeant. She was presented with her new sergeant’s shield at the meeting by police chief Joseph Snyder.
Exago moved last week to The Fuller Building from its office location at the corner of Wall and John streets in Kingston’s Stockade neighborhood. On Monday morning, about 20 people, some sitting and others standing, were working on their large computer screens in the middle of the space. A row of 21 windows on the structure’s parking-lot side flooded the room with light.
The Women’s Studio Workshop will host its 23rd annual Chili Bowl Fest fundraiser this Saturday, February 29 in the dining hall at the SUNY Ulster campus, 491 Cottekill Road in Stone Ridge. Early bird attendees, who get first crack at the one-of-a-kind, handmade ceramic bowls the chili is served in, pay a $10 admission fee with later arrivals at the event getting in free from 4-7 p.m.
The chili competition fundraiser to benefit Town of Gardiner Fire Department and Parks & Recreation will take place this Saturday, February 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gardiner Firehouse, 2349 Route 44/55 in Gardiner.
Summer seems a long way away in the midst of winter, even in this relatively mild one we’re having (knock on wood). But if you’re a community-minded individual who wants the Independence Day celebration to return to New Paltz this July, it’s time to step forward.
