The stellar and melodic indie rock band called The Jennifer Shop is one of the most incredible new musical acts in the area. Helmed by introspective singer and instrumentalist Jack Manley along with a cast of cohorts, the group really blew me away recently when I saw them share a bill with Globelamp. The songs just swirled with life and enthusiasm, reminding listeners of heartfelt moments or the excitement of tackling new frontiers. This up-and-coming band is appearing at BSP on 1/24 alongside popular act JK Vanderbilt.
Dana Kuhns has been named scout executive of the Rip Van Winkle Council, Boy Scouts of America, which serves Ulster and Greene Counties.
The mission of WHMK, says those behind it, “is to celebrate the diversity and contributions of people who identify as women. Launching from the historical (and sometimes forgotten or unrecognized past), the goal is to empower people, here and now, towards an inclusive future where anyone’s impact can be revered.”

A fixture of the local scene for many years serving drinks during various legendary eras of our fair little kind-hearted city, Dan is an awesome guy who has seen it all and been there for a lot of folks by either helping them stop crying in their beer or yelling at them to stop singing so badly to ’80s songs.
This week in Faces of Kingston it was a genuine treat to chat about country music and local memories with performer and local business owner Michele Ferraro. Michele’s love of our community’s people, past and present is inspiring.
While retail stores have blossomed in Kingston filling empty storefronts, the city lacks the practical, day-to-day kinds of shops that decades ago, before supermarkets, malls and big-box stores, made it a true commercial center with residents able to do all their shopping on foot. For residents lacking cars — and for those of us who wish we could spend less time driving — that’s a problem. So the advent of the Kingston Food Co-op, which was announced last March and so far has between 260 and 300 members as well as a building on Broadway in Midtown, is welcome news.
This week for Faces of Kingston, as we dive (or are pushed) into the Holiday Season further, it felt like time for a chat with true humanitarian Diane Reeder of the essential, fun and very happy sweet tooth all-in-one stop shop, Kingston Candy Bar.
This week, I am very pleased to have an in-depth discussion with one of the most active members of our community, Frank Waters. This is a great time of year to care about others and Waters is very involved with Kingston Midtown Rising as well as My Kingston Kids. It was inspiring to hear all the positive things he had to say about the direction Kingston is heading regarding tangible opportunities for personal growth, as well as activities for young people.
