The fate of a proposed 66-unit affordable senior housing complex at the former city alms house could be decided in State Supreme Court after the housing nonprofit Rupco filed suit to challenge the Kingston Planning Board’s rejection last month of site plan approval and a special permit for the project.
The Radio Kingston-sponsored show dubbed “The Fall Fling” is slated for this Sunday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. The show will feature a hip-hop dance party with Radio Kingston DJ Micah Blumenthal and a performance by “Mystic Bowie’s Talking Dreads,” a band that offers reggae interpretations of the music of iconic New Wave band Talking Heads.
Both sides agreed that the crime was brutal, senseless and committed by Seth Lyons. But, in opening arguments in county court Tuesday, attorneys for the prosecution and defense offered different theories of what had motivated the 21-year-old homeless man to savagely beat and kill 49-year-old Anthony Garro beneath a bridge on Elmendorf Street in the early hours of Nov. 29, 2017.
The Ulster Police Department arrested an East Kingston man this morning and charged him with felony arson in connection with two suspicious fires that occurred in February.
It’s not easy starting and growing an organization, particularly when the work is all volunteer and the mission embraces an entire city.
“Players are not protesting the flag or the National Anthem,” writes a reader from Kingston. “If you would like the NFL to show respect for the flag, demand they take the flag off the uniforms, stop carrying the flag horizontally and, for goodness’ sake, get representations of the flag off of beer cans and cups at the stadiums. All of those things are against the U.S. Flag Code, but they happen every game day in the NFL.”
Members of the city’s planning board will have to explain why they rejected a proposal by Rupco to build 66 units of affordable senior housing at a site on Flatbush Avenue that once held the city’s alms house. The board will also have to hold a second vote to formally accept or reject Rupco’s site plan for the project.
The Ulster town board last week approved the posting of “No Littering” signs along Glenerie Boulevard in an effort to quell an uptick in illegal dumping.
“The idea is to bring together all of these wellness organizations — and I consider that a broad term — to network, to create common goals, to share resources,” said Flynn of the Live Well Kingston program. “All of the good things that happen when you break down barriers between organizations.”
County Executive Mike Hein signed the “Ulster County Human Rights Protection Act of 2018” on Tuesday, Sept. 12 amidst county legislators, members of the community and the new Human Rights Commission which the law forms. Under the legislation, Ulster County residents can seek redress of discrimination complaints locally before this commission.
