Kingston officials are calling on residents to conserve water in the midst of a drought that has caused water levels at Woodstock’s Cooper Lake to plummet.
Ulster wants to shut down Buck’s junkyard on Rt. 213
Ulster town officials have continued pushing for the closure of Buck’s junkyard on Route 213, issuing an order to remedy against the owner of an adjacent property to remove cars and automotive parts that have crossed the property line from the property owned by Don Mackenzie.
With BOCES move, Kingston’s historic former library becomes available for other uses
The Ulster BOCES P-Tech program has outgrown their space at the former Carnegie Library building on Broadway. It has moved to the SUNY Ulster satellite campus in the former Sophie Finn Elementary School a few hundred feet away.
The state of the Catskills
The keynote speaker told the fourth biennial conference of the Catskill Environmental Research and Monitoring last Thursday morning that he regards the creation of the state Catskills forest preserve in 1888 as the beginning of “what must be one of the longest experiments in natural recovery and restoration ecology” in the world.

Refugees from Afghanistan, Iraq to be resettled in Hudson Valley
More than a dozen refugee families from war-torn areas of the globe will be coming to live in the Hudson Valley early in 2017, thanks to the efforts of a coalition of local universities and faith-based organizations. A meeting will be held Sunday, Nov. 6 at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie to discuss the details.
