With space secured on Broadway, Kingston Food Co-Op is taking shape

While retail stores have blossomed in Kingston filling empty storefronts, the city lacks the practical, day-to-day kinds of shops that decades ago, before supermarkets, malls and big-box stores, made it a true commercial center with residents able to do all their shopping on foot. For residents lacking cars — and for those of us who wish we could spend less time driving — that’s a problem. So the advent of the Kingston Food Co-op, which was announced last March and so far has between 260 and 300 members as well as a building on Broadway in Midtown, is welcome news.

Democratic senate candidate Jeff Collins folds tent, joins Hinchey campaign

Woodstocker Jeff Collins announced last week that he would end his bid for the state Senate’s 46th District seat and throw his support behind fellow Democrat Michelle Hinchey. Collins’ withdrawal and incumbent state Sen. George Amedore’s announcement earlier this month that he would not seek a fourth term leaves Hinchey, for now, the sole announced candidate in the race.

Post Office announces holiday hours

Westchester District postal officials are announcing Post Offices throughout the Greater Hudson Valley will be open on Tuesday, December 24 – Christmas Eve, but closing earlier than the normal weekday hours. The December 24 adjusted hours, which are based on local conditions, are posted in the Post Office lobbies.
