Originally the “Turkey Trot” was a lively ragtime dance condemned by the Vatican. Today, it’s a footrace, usually for charity, designed to assuage people’s feelings of guilt over their excessive caloric intake on holidays like Thanksgiving.
A mind-boggling selection of the piquant and the puckery will be available for purchase and on display this Sunday, November 20 at the Rosendale Recreation Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
He was the fourth-century patron saint of sailors and children – talkin’ about Sinterklaas here – and was brought to the Hudson Valley over 300 years ago by the original Dutch immigrants who populated the area before the Brits took over.
The screening features a costumed “shadow cast” whose task is to act out scenes, dance to the musical numbers from the film and encourage callbacks from the audience.
The parades are just the beginning.
It’s all about the sheep. And goats and llamas and alpacas and paco-vicuñas and bunnies. These sweet-faced, sometimes noisy and entertaining animals grow some of the finest fleece around.
Guests will bear witness to the legendary true story of a tormented mother and an unorthodox macabre wedding ceremony, while also learning about sexist witch trials, kidnapped wives, mourning brides and the curse of infertility.
As always, there are too many good bands, too many choices. But here are three you shouldn’t miss: two headliners and an up-and-comer.
