Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 7-8: This fair features fine art, folk art, decorative art, textiles, samplers, weathervanes, English furniture, country furniture, formal furniture, quilts, trade signs, antique and estate jewelry, painted furniture, pottery, silver and garden architectural items presented by 125 dealers.
Fridays-Sundays in Oct.: It’s the same core group of madcap creative types at the New York Renaissance Faire that ratchets up the fear at this award-winning Halloween attraction — considered one of the scariest in the Northeast.
Oct. 12-13: Worldwide, the number of democracies is declining. In America, social and institutional trust has weakened. In this year’s conference, “Crises of Democracy: Thinking in Dark Times,” Bard’s Hannah Arendt Center looks at how we got here and what the future may hold.
Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 30-Oct. 1: Have a clove affair with music, chef demos and a cornucopia of garlic-based foods including salsa, hummus, sauce, sausage, pickles, olives, cheese, as well as garlic caramels, fudge and ice cream!
Sunday, Sept. 3: The festival on the Rondout waterfront has bagpipers, food, libations, music, step dancing, storytelling, Celtic wares and more. Plus there will be a Gaelic football and hurling clinic the day before the Hooley at Dietz Stadium in Kingston.
The fair runs through Sunday, August 6.
Tuesday-Sunday, Aug. 1-6: B. J. Thomas and Oak Ridge Boys headline this year’s musical offerings.
The next concert takes place on Wednesday, July 26 at 7 p.m., featuring the Wishing on Stars jazz band at the Staatsburgh State Historic Site.
Sunday, July 23: This week marks the 90th birthday of Hudson resident, Pulitzer Prize-winner, retired Bard College professor and former New York State poet laureate John Ashbery. Small presses being the lifeblood of even poets as famous as Ashbery, it’s a natural fit for this weekend’s Read & Feed to pay tribute to the occasion.
Saturday, July 22: Dragon boats are 40-foot-long canoes made of fiberglass, decorated with a carved painted dragon head on the front, a wooden tail on the back and dragon scales down the hull. Holding up to 20 paddlers, plus a drummer to set the rhythm and a steerer, the boats create quite a spectacle as they glide on top of the waters.
