With this move, the county anticipates the statewide act, scheduled for 2020 enforcement, with which New York will join only two other US states to date (California, of course, but also Hawaii) and 30 nations, from France to Madagascar.
Sunday, July 14: More than 300 cars will be on view throughout the beautiful grounds at Locust Grove, the mansion once home to artist and inventor of the telegraph Samuel F. B. Morse.
Friday, July 12-Sunday, July 14: Want to take a flight in a hot-air balloon, or go aloft on a tethered ride? No problem. A helicopter ride more your speed? Yeah, you can do that, too. Or do you just want to take in the spectacle of more than 100 hot-air balloons launching throughout the weekend? Or view the Illumination Moon Glow on Friday and Saturday evenings: a stationary display of hot-air balloons with their burners fired up, glowing against the night sky? A greater number than ever of the eyecatching “shape balloons” are expected this year – which have included lighthouses, cartoon animals and even a tuxedo balloon – and the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome will get into the act, too, with an antique airplane display and flyovers (wind and weather permitting, as is true of all flight activities over the weekend).
A rundown of all the shows we know about across the Mid-Hudson Valley, with a map. 2019 edition. Plan your viewing!
County fairs are for everyone: everyone who dares believe in our commonality, our blood ties to livestock and the Earth and in the high ritualistic value of pure diversion and unhealthy fats as your great-grandparents enjoyed them.
In case you missed it, residents of the part of the Town of Gardiner nearby Tillson Lake have been organizing for more than a year now to halt a plan by the Palisades Interstate Park Commission to “dewater” the 24-acre manmade reservoir fed by the Palmaghatt Kill near the foot of the Shawangunk Ridge.
You don’t need to go all the way to New Mexico to enjoy the splendor of hot-air balloons massing in the sky, or to cross experiencing a skyride in one off your bucket list. The much-loved Hudson Valley Hot-Air Balloon Festival is returning to the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck from 4 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 12 to 14, for its 28th annual visitation.
Saturday, June 8: Bakers, baseball fans and New Yorker readers all owe the Fleischmanns a debt of gratitude, whether they know it or not.
Saturday, June 8: The festivities will include an outrageously stocked book sale, plant sale, children’s activities, craft and gift booths, food and drink and entertainment all day.
