The Steve Miller Band, a mainstay of the ’60s San Francisco music scene will top a fine double bill beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 28 at UPAC, 601 Broadway, Kingston. Also appearing will be Grammy winning country start Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives.
The shows combine art, food, music, storytelling, meditation, singing, performance, and community interaction in an artistic celebration that will take place this year from July 25 through July 28, at various locations in Woodstock.
Saturday, July 20: One of rock’s most identifiable interpreters, Southside turns everything he touches to Southside, whether it is “Walk Away Renee,” “The Fever” or his signature song, “We’re Having a Party.” This is the essence of New Jersey rock ‘n’ roll.
Friday, July 19: At 73 and killing it as ever before, Bettye LaVette began what she herself refers to her as her “fifth career” in the year 2000, a renaissance of new recordings and recognitions that has not abated two decades into the millennium.
Saturday, July 20: In retrospect, Blondie and Elvis Costello represent the style and the substance, respectively, of the New Wave pop revolution of the late ’70s.
The versatile keyboard virtuoso Neil Alexander has made a lot of beans via homage and tribute: as a longtime member of the popular Pink Floyd tribute band the Machine; in his labor-of-love Weather Report, Herbie Hancock and Mahavishnu cover projects; and even, one could argue, in the decade or so of his life that he dedicated to developing a technically grueling two-hands piano version of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring. But through it all, Alexander has been a prolific composer and songwriter in his own right, releasing many of his originals under the name NAIL.

Sunday, July 14: Founded by master drummer Hiro Kurashima, Taiko Masala performs a combination of dance, martial arts and extremely percussive music on huge handmade drums and other traditional Japanese instruments: shakuhachi, fue, koto.
July 15-28: Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Summer Jazz Academy, a two-week residential high school summer institute for advanced study in jazz performance, takes place at Bard College and offers locals a number of opportunities to hear great jazz performed by both the Jedis and the Padawans.
