This is a love story as well as an environmental and political thriller and exposé. Ironically, it is the love story that asks the most willingness and imaginative extension of the reader.
Sunday, March 10: The City of Kingston is gearing up for its 32nd annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, preceded by its 31st annual Shamrock Run. Both follow essentially the same two-mile Broadway course, which is mostly flat but ends with a long downhill approaching the Rondout riverfront. The run is believed to be the largest between New York City and Albany.
Sunday, March 3: St. Baldrick’s Day, the cancer fundraising event in which participants have their head shaved after gathering donations from sponsors, is back and it’s “bigger and balder” than ever in Saugerties.
Saturday, Mar. 2: It’s an imaginative notion for an interview show dreamed up by actress Sarah Thyre and New Yorker staff writer Susan Orlean. Sometimes the hosts as well as the guests end up weeping on-air – even when the tear-inducing event shared is something as silly as a TV commercial.
Saturday, Mar. 2: When Joni Mitchell turned 75, her literal hordes of indebted admirers and peers, famous in their own right, showed up to pay tribute to her astounding musical and cultural achievements. The whole affair was captured on film.
Saturday, Mar. 2: Over the years the parade has grown to include more than 3,000 participants and entertained more than 10,000 spectators as it winds its way through the Village of Wappingers Falls.
Sunday, Mar. 3: Competitors from local restaurants and organizations as well as local amateurs will be serving up their very best macaroni and cheese to benefit Angel Food East. Cajun/Creole music will be provided by the Bunkhouse Boys.
On Friday, April 13, 2029 (yes, Friday the 13th!), the asteroid Apophis will just barely miss us.

The original Lego Movie didn’t merely milk consumer interest in the parent product; it brazenly mocked its own brand and passive consumerism as an approach to living. Alas, much of the charm of the original has been lost in its sequel.
