In 2011 New Paltz farmer Paul Alward, Bywater Bistro proprietor Sam Ullman and self-described “health nut” Joe Katona had teamed up with financier John Fitzgibbons to found Hudson Valley Harvest. They wanted the Hudson Valley to develop the kind of brand identity and degree of market organization in order to compete successfully with giant non-local producers and distributors. Hudson Valley Harvest has operated year-round since then from its leased headquarters in TechCity in the Town of Ulster.
Walking Woodstock: Leaving Glenford
From the air, Glenford is a pleasant scattering of roofs on the south slope of Ohayo Mountain. Some of its houses have splendid views of the sparkling Ashokan Reservoir. Glenford serves as a suburb of its famous sister hamlet, and is rapidly being gentrified.
The last hurrah?
This will probably be the second to last — at least for a while — of our occasional columns in this space about flight activities at Stewart Airport. The two years of Norwegian Air’s experiment with the Newburgh airport for low-cost international flights is coming to a close a week from this coming Sunday, on September 15. The most dramatic traffic boost in Stewart’s commercial history is about to come to an unwelcome end.

How do we form our relationships to art, sound or the self? Is it all pre-conditioning or situational or does some part of it essentially come from some Platonic realm of forms or a divine spark we channel while in this mortal coil? It is a fascinating subject, a mansion-sized conversation with many rooms and theories to wander through. The answer can also be different for each individual, I’d wager.
Letter: Back to the drawing board for the Kingstionian
“I don’t know anyone who is against developing the city property at the end of Wall Street,” writes a reader. “Nor do I know anyone who is against a true increase in parking spaces available to the community. What I hear and see are that people want a project that aesthetically fits the area; that benefits the community, and that addresses historical, societal, and environmental needs. The Kingstonian project, as it is currently designed, fails in most of these areas.”
